All you need to know about our kitchen fitting service

Firstly your existing kitchen needs to be removed and disposed of quickly. We aim to do this on the first day.

New electric cables are installed in compliance with Part P Building Regulations for -

    • Lighting. Under unit lights. Recessed low voltage halogen down lights. LEDs. Surface mounted.
    • Single & double powerpoint sockets.
    • Fused spur switches.
    • Cooker switch.
    • Underfloor heating.
    • Food disposers.
    • Extractor fans.
    • TV and audio.

If your kitchen is to be arranged differently or is a new room then new hot and cold water feeds and waste pipes will be required. Gas pipes installed or moved. Central heating feeds often need to be repositioned. These pipes are either concealed in wall cavities, behind base units, false walls or boxed using WBP plywood.

    Walls, Floors & Ceilings

New ceilings are often required using 12mm fire resistant plaster board. Then dry-lined using a fibre lining paper or plastered.

New floors include timber, screed or floating floors. Insulation boards are required if using underfloor heating. These ensure that the heat is radiated upwards and not absorbed by the floor beneath.

False walls are sometimes needed to recess taps if there isn’t sufficient space within the wall itself.

Walls need to be made good, ready for tiling or painting. Exterior walls are rendered with sand cement before plastering to prevent moisture being drawn in. Aqua Board is often used as well as fire resistant plaster board. All surfaces are sealed with SBR solution prior to tiling and any plastering with PVA solution prior to painting.

    Kitchen Units

Wall and base units are assembled if they come flat-packed. Unpainted MDF and solid wood units come pre-made and require painting before and after fitting.

Underfloor heating is not a new concept it was first used by the Romans who understood the benefits of invisible radiant heating long ago. In some European countries it accounts for 70% of new heating installations, but countries like the UK are still well behind in its adoption.

Radiators are fitted. These can be heated either through the central heating or electrically, or both. Radiators now come in all shapes and sizes to fit in with whatever style you wish to create.

Electric Fans can be fitted in the kickboards under the base units to give instant warmth on those chilly mornings.

Today however more and more of us are choosing to either build our own home or improve our existing homes and this coupled with a stronger focus on the environment and energy savings has increased the interest and adoption levels of underfloor heating.

    Tiling, Tiles & Panelling

Any type of tile can be used on walls and floors, whether it’s made of natural stone, ceramic, porcelain, slate, granite, marble, travertine or glass. Great care and attention to detail is required to get the best results.

Natural stone, slate, marble and travertine tiles need to be treated with a sealant to prevent staining and repel water. Grouts of all different colours are available to taste. Tiled surfaces are then polished.

Selkie Board waterproof panels from Rearo are an excellent alternative to tiling for kitchens, offering a unique combination of beautiful designs with minimal maintenance.

    Work Tops

Work tops come in granite, marble, solid wood or composite.

Woods and composites can be cut on site.

Stone tops require templates which are sent to our suppliers. The lead time for stone work tops is between 7-10 working days.

    Sinks & Taps

Sinks can be inset or under mounted to the worktops. Food disposal units can be fitted underneath.

The tap makes a great focal feature in any kitchen and with today’s innovative designs there are thousands to choose from.

    Hardware, Lighting & Accessories

Washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, fridges and freezers can either be integrated and hidden away within base units to give a clean minimal look or left visible and free-standing. All are fitted, plumbed and tested.

Ovens come in all shapes and sizes from integrated to large free range. Gas, electric fan, steam and microwave ovens all have a place in today’s modern kitchens.

Lights are installed under units to give a soft effect or recessed low voltage halogen down lights in ceilings on a dimmer switch. LED lights are a fun way to light a kitchen. Surface mounted lights on walls and ceilings.

If a good cup of coffee really gets you going, then a built-in-coffee machine could be the perfect addition to your kitchen.

Glass splash-backs are a smart and easy to maintain option for uprights or behind hobbs and sinks. These can be made any colour you fancy to tie into the rest of your kitchen.

Extractor fans & chimney hoods are vented outside if possible. If this isn’t possible charcoal filters are fitted.
